Commando 3 + SFIIHD Beta out next week?

Today Xbox UK released their monthly newsletter to subscribers - with an extra little tidbit - Commando 3: ETA May 28th!

Previous leaks via the Xbox newsletter have been fairly close to the mark - the September 07 Newsletter displayed Sonic 2 and Puzzle Quest, in which Sonic 2 was released, Puzzle Quest the month after. Neither of those games gave a specific date like this - so it's looking pretty good!

The game has shown up on the official Xbox.com webpage - but no date there either. Hopefully the Capcom blog will have something to say over the weekend!

Don't forget that Commando 3 will also include a limited release of the Super Street Fighter II HD Remix Online Beta - where you can play as either Ryu or Ken and fight players online!

Team Xbox previews Ticket to Ride, Commando 3

Despite Ticket to Ride not being officially announced, it looks like they've just skipped it over and gone to the previews! Team Xbox has a new preview of Ticket to Ride!
Ticket to Ride is one of those games that's pretty simple to get the hang of, but requires a lot of strategy to excel at. While the game is certainly fun on its own merits, the competitive nature of the game lends an extra level of excitement. Working against others to build the best and most expansive railway while trying to head others off at the pass, all while trying to connect your Destination goals is a thrill.

And while the game's AI proves a good challenge for any skill level, the real fun comes in taking on live opponents in full five player multiplayer games over Xbox LIVE. Games are quick to set up and jump into, and seem to play without ever getting derailed by lag issues. As an added bonus, Playful Entertainment and Days of Wonder have plans to release additional maps and expansions to the game via the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
Check out the whole preview here!

As well as TTR, they've added a new preview of Capcom's Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3! It's getting closer and closer to release, hopefully it's out soon.
Commando 3 takes the gameplay formula from the previous Commando games and translates in such a way as to make the most of home consoles. Players move around the screen with the left thumbstick and fire by using the right thumbstick, reminiscent of games like Galaxy Wars or (for you older gamers out there) Smash TV. Using either the right trigger or the right bumper, the player can aim and toss grenades, perfect for taking out enemy vehicles, bunkers, or soldiers ducking behind barricades.

Players also have at their disposal a limited number of special "M-Crash" attacks.
These powerful moves unleash the player's full destructive potential, instantly clearing the screen of enemy troops and causing massive damage to nearby structures and vehicles.
Check out the whole preview here!

Angry Hyphen Gamer Podcast - Commando 3 & 1942 impressions!

Angry-Gamer.net's latest podcast has Cameron and Clint and George on the mic' discussing a quick play of the upcoming games Commando 3 and 1942! Of course, this is after a very quick look at each,

About Commando 3:
"You shoot shit!"

"Instead of always in a Jeep and sometimes on foot, you're always on foot and sometimes in a Jeep!"

"It's fucking Commando! Everyone is gonna be reviewing this in the upcoming weeks and be "Yeah, it's an Assault Heroes Clone!" No, fuck you! This came first!"
And a small look at 1942 Joint Strike:
"Lots of slowdown, not so good graphics, and not much fun."
Commando 3 sounds great, a shame about 1942. Of course, it's not out yet - hopefully those graphical glitches get sorted out. It's probably the last of the Capcom games to come out anyhow, so it has a few good months of dev time.Listen to the whole podcast here.

Assault Heroes 2 coming out May 14th!

Shacknews has gotten a hold of a Sierra press release stating that the sequel to the popular twin-stick, cooperative shoot-em-up Assault Heroes will be dropping on May 14th!

Along with the news - in Sierra's PR blowout on TeamXbox they've released a whole slew of new videos:

Access Multiple Weapons On-Foot

Destroy the Rainforest

Hijack Enemy Choppers

Extended Trailer

They've also got a quick rundown of features, which you can view here

Assault Heroes 2 and Commando 3 are coming out very soon... hopefully they don't cannibalize each others sales since they're both from the same genre. Even if they're both quality titles, the pure fact that Commando 3 comes with a Street Figher II HD BETA will very likely destroy AH2. Let's hope Sierra and Microsoft know what they're doing.

Speaking of releases.. pure speculation, but there's probably a good chance that nothing will be released this week. Why? A little game called Grand Theft Auto IV. Same thing happened with Halo 3, and anything released this week might get sent to die, so to speak.

"Meh" preview of Commando 3 from Gamespot's On The Spot

Honestly, I don't know why I'm posting it, since it's pretty terrible. Gamespot's weekly show On The Spot had a quick preview of Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 this week. Unfortunately, it was quite terrible!

Ricardo Torres gives a poor performance while he attempts to play the game - firstly calling the name of the game incorrectly, secondly getting stuck in the first area of the beach where it's clearly set to "Monster Closet", saying that there was only 2 player Cooperative play when there is 3 player Coop, and just playing poorly in general. Wah Wah, EIC of Gamespot!

One additional note - which he was clearly much happier to point out - was the lovely "SFIIHD BETA" you can click on the bottom of the screen. I'm sure many other people are too, but Commando 3 is looking like it'll be a great game too.

Xbox 360 @ IGN - New videos of Commando 3!

IGN has a brand new Hands-On of Commando 3, along with some new videos to complement it:
There are four levels of difficulty with descriptors ranging from cake walk to suicide mission. We went all in to see how far our skills could take us. The first level starts out on a beach and isn't much of a suicide, but things quickly ramped up once you take down the first tank boss. The second level is a prison breakout several years later, and then it was on to the mountain stage before our legs finally gave out. The endless onslaught of enemies was too much even for us -- particularly the backdoor bros that kept creeping up from the rear as we plowed ahead.

Capcom Digital Day '08 - New Commando 3 impressions

Curse all this news, it's very hard to keep up!

Gamespot have got new impressions of Commando 3 from Capcom's Digital Day:

The game started with our squad being dropped off on a string of small islands that quickly revealed themselves as being under enemy control. It wasn't long before we found ourselves under fire from all directions. The game's simple controls made fighting back a breeze. The right analog stick was used to fire our guns, while pulling the right trigger would toss a grenade. The longer you hold the trigger, the further your grenade will go.

This made it much easier to take out soldiers hiding behind sandbags as well as to destroy vehicles. When the going got really tough, one of us would hit the left trigger to unleash an m-crash--an attack that, after a quick animated scene with the soldier who activated it, cleared all the enemies right off the screen.
It's sounding very nice - though I'm a bit worried with the lack of media push for the game compared to Bionic Commando and Street Fighter II HD - lets hope it starts getting more publicity.

Plus, new images! Check them out here!

New Street Fighter II HD Remix Video, Images, Capblog, Online BETA!

Gamespot cornered David Serlin - the lead designer of SFIIHD down at Backbone - to ask them a few questions on the upcoming game. The video above also includes the first direct-feed video of the game!

Check out the video above, or download it directly here.

Now one of the first things you'll notice is that the graphics have changed a little - little flatter, thumbs in the right place this time, some giant eyebrows on Ken - well that's because they've had to start from scratch all over again!

The Capcom Blog has updated with a brand new entry all about the changes to SFIIHD in far, FAR more detail than any regular person could care for. But we're not talking about regular people - we're talking about Street Fighter fans!

There are a number of reasons we decided to change the art and here’s the run down of how we came to that decision: As a necessary part of development, we had to outsource a lot of the work to an outside company that based their work off of Udon’s key frames. This company has an excellent reputation and ability as an outside art contractor and we were very impressed with their overall resources and their infrastructure. Without going into the nitty-gritty of it, the art they were producing just wasn’t up to par or schedule of what we needed. To be honest, a lot of their art was looking pretty good, but just not “good enough.” It just wouldn’t satisfy the quality bar that both Capcom and Street Fighter fans demand.

So, we turned to Udon to help solve this problem. First, they identified that all of us (Capcom and Udon) were aiming way too high with our render style. In the original style, we were going using at least 6-8 tones to go from the darkest to the lightest values of a particular color. This, as some fans actually pointed out, is extremely hard to do. We decided to stick it out and go with that route and unfortunately, it didn’t work out too well.

There has been a bit of a delay thanks to the complete recreation of the recreated assets - but it's allowed them to add some more gameplay modes. Some of them include:
• 8-man Tournament Mode. This has been especially challenging with the new netcode
• Both Remixed and Classic music
• Hit Box Display. (Woohoo!)
View the whole blog post here, complete with viewable changed between characters.

And FINALLY - players will get a chance to play an online BETA of Street Fighter II HD! That is, if you buy yourself a copy of the upcoming Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 - only for the XBLA version! Capcom will send anyone who buys Commando 3 a code to download a trimmed down, online only version of SFIIHD, where players can only play as Ryu or Ken. This BETA will allow them to see how Lag goes since the original version got quite a bit of flack for the online code.

Hey, it worked for Crackdown - I'm just hoping Commando 3 is an exceptional game that lives up to my memories of playing MERCS on my SEGA Megadrive!

Capcom Digital Day '08 - New Commando 3 Trailer!

Bam, done. Looking very nice, and a lot of the different weapons from MERCS (Laser, Flamethrower) so hopefully it'll be a great game.

Buying Commando 3 will also net players a chance to play a BETA of Street Fighter II HD Remix!

Commando 3 gets a name change

With the latest ESRB update comes a change to the upcoming Capcom XBLA game - Commando 3. Instead, it has been renamed: Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3

The original Commando in Japan was actually called Wolf of the Battlefield - so bringing this into the official English translation makes some sense. The more obvious answer would be that just being a game with "Commando" in the title is already very confusing!

"Commandos" is an Eidos RTS series, and the Xbox Live Arcade already has Commanders: Attack of the Genos and Bionic Commando coming out - and they can't call it MERCS 2 as Lucasarts intend to release "Mercenaries 2: World in Flames" this year. It'll get lost with all those games already on Xbox.

Poor Commando! A shame Wolf of the Battlefield doesn't roll off the tongue like Commando does. Plus it might be in trouble if Wolfenstien makes an XBLA appearance.
