Roogoo and Aces of the Galaxy are your games of the week!

Two two-game weeks in a row! Are Microsoft on a roll? This week brings you the Space Shooter Aces of the Galaxy, and the cute original puzzler Roogoo!

Enjoy the frantic action of Aces of the Galaxy, an old fashioned arcade adrenaline-pumping shoot-em-up that allows players to save the Universe from the wicked Skurgian Empire. Players annihilate enemy ships with an impressive arsenal of upgradeable weapons including high-powered missile launchers, devastating torpedoes and the relentless chain gun.

Battle intense waves of enemy Skurgians against a breathtaking outer space backdrop, and choose to fight alone or join up with a friend at home or via Xbox LIVE.
Aces of the Galaxy will be released Worldwide for 800 Microsoft Points.

Roogoo updates the square peg in round hole premise to a whole new level. Help the Roogoo defeat their enemies, the evil Meemoo, in Roogoo, a new and innovative action based-puzzler with addictive gameplay. Players line up multiple platforms on different levels to allow shaped blocks to pass through and once enough stack up, that particular shape closes off.

A simple premise becomes more complicated as Meemoos begin to obstruct players' paths and butterflies attempt to steal blocks away. Players must swivel, roll and boost their way through 45 puzzle-filled levels alone or with up to four friends in cooperative party mode play.

For those with a more competitive spirit, Roogoo offers a two-player multiplayer mode over Xbox LIVE where players battle to solve the same puzzle and can build up attacks to thwart their competitors' efforts.
Roogoo will be available Worldwide, with the exception of Japan, for 800 Microsoft Points.

Aces of the Galaxy - your second game next week!

Looks like Microsoft may be amping up the release schedule. Previously Sierra's Aces Of the Galaxy was thought that it might reach here on the 11th of June, but now it seems that it's joining Roogoo for a two-fer week!

Sierra Online's webpage has updated with the release date, along with some small tidbits of information. You can check out that page here. If their site is anything to go by, Sea Life Safari will be next month's Sierra title for XBLA.

As well as this, IGN have a new preview with a set of environments available to the player,, and the weapons you can pick up! Check it out below.

New Roogoo preview, plus release date!

The upcoming puzzler Roogoo from Spidermonk Entertainment has just been previewed by Hilary Goldstein over at IGN Xbox. Roogoo seems to be quite an odd little puzzle game - having different shapes come down and requiring the player to match them up - like one of these but far more elaborate and difficult.

Interesting concept - one of the cool additions on top of this is that you can play 4 player Coop Locally and online, trying to solve each puzzle together! This might be the girlfriend game you've been looking for!
Co-op is a little more interesting. Either on a single screen or on Xbox Live, up to four players can attempt to pass the levels together. Players alternate between the platforms they control, with their avatar appearing when it is their turn. It can be a little confusing for the first few seconds, but quickly becomes second nature. You get a sense of when it will be your turn. Though each player is working together, there is still a competitive aspect as all are trying to earn the highest score.
In the preview, Goldstein also writes that the game will be coming out June 4th - so in just two weeks time!

New Roogoo screenshots released, new hands on

Southpeak have released 6 brand new shots of their upcoming XBLA puzzler, Roogoo. Along with this, Joystiq have got some new hands on impressions of it! Here's a snippet:
Roogoo follows one of the cardinal rules of the puzzle genre: inexplicably, things are falling from the sky. Blocks of various shapes will descend from above, and players must rotate platforms to allow these shapes to continue their journey downward. We're certain you've played with preschool toys that are similar to this: star goes in star, triangle goes in triangle, box goes in box, etc. The shoulder buttons rotate the platforms, and the A button lets you accelerate the falling piece.

Roogoo announced for the XBLA!

Southpeak Interactive have announced they will be releasing a new Puzzle game to the XBLA, titled Roogoo!

Developed by Spidermonk Entertainment, Roogoo uses geometric shapes and rotating discs to craft a frenetic puzzle game framed within an imaginative storyline and a fantasy universe.
Roogoo tasks players with guiding meteors in the form of shaped blocks though a series of rotating disks as a means of saving the planet Roo and the entire Roogoo race. If aligned correctly, the disks allow the blocks to reach the ground and scores are awarded. However, it’s not as easy as simply rotating the disks to form a neat tunnel. Various obstacles and enemies will impede the blocks’ transit and with the flow of meteor blocks steadily increasing as the game progresses, players will have to think on their feet to save the Roogoo and rack up seriously high scores.

“Roogoo is a rare breed of puzzle game that combines compulsive play with an engaging storyline and a wonderful fantasy world,” said Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak Games. “With its accessible game play, unique charm and high production values, Roogoo is set to carve its own niche when released for Xbox LIVE Arcade and PC. Gamers will definitely have loads of fun mastering its unusual depth and trying to become the guru of Roogoo.”

The apparently intend to release this in Spring this year, but like the many other games that should be coming our way soon it may be a while - it's all up to Microsoft.

Included are two pictures of the game, which you can see here. Team Xbox also has some artwork of the game which you can see below. It's got a very nice style to it, even thought it may be trying a little too much to appeal to a younger demographic, but the artwork seems to show a darker side to the game they've yet to show off. Certainly didn't stop Peggle anyhow!

Hey, it's a brand new puzzle game for the XBLA! It's great people are trying new stuff!
