Well, I have been playing Mr. Driller Online for the last few days, and yes it is indeed quite a disaipointment, especially if you think what it could have been (think Drill Land)...but I cannot agree with the Gamespot & IGN Reviews at all.
While the online multyplayer-part is indeed broken, the single player is as good as ever (and offers more content than the original Arcade Game), and Mr. Driller is to me still one of the best puzzle-game concepts around and the Soundtrack is awesome as ever (but unfortunately they took out some of the japanese voices/sound-effects).
So is it a horrible game as these review-scores sugest? To me it´s definately not.
Also, I´ve read on NeoGaf that someone said that this is a bare bones port of the Original Arcade Game. That is not the case. This is a completely different game (compare the screenshots/the sprites). It seems to me more that this is a stripped down port of the Game Cube game. While the upscaled and blurred Sprites look ugly on an HDTV, at least the animation looks better than in the Arcade-Original.
So overall, this incredible lazy port may feel quite a bit like a slap in the face to Mr. Driller Fans by Namco..but it´s still not a bad game.
